Mystic Lake Store at Mall of America Undergoes Major Renovations
Bloomington, Minnesota -
Demolition began on Monday, September 24, 2007, for a five-week construction project to remodel the Mystic Lake Store at the Mall of America. During that time staff are offering services out of a temporary kiosk down the hall from the store's location. Free bus service to Mystic Lake Casino, along with Ticketmaster sales will continue in this temporary location. This is the first major renovation since the store opened May 23, 2001. The store is owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC).
The store interior will be demolished and then rebuilt in a style that matches some of the design elements found in the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel lobby, according to Store Manager Barb Allison. The store will be repainted and decorated in an upscale fashion to reflect the art deco look of the new Mystic Showroom. Materials used throughout the store will reflect light and have a high tech finish.
Three plasma screens and three kiosks will provide information and visuals for guests. One side of the store will feature information on all Minnesota tribes, as well as information about the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. This cultural side will also feature museum quality glass display cases with rotating displays. Plans are to feature Pow Wow regalia at the re-opening. Displays will change several times annually. A 32-inch monitor will offer video information about the SMSC.
The other side of the store will feature Mystic Lake Casino, including a retail display wall and a 42-inch plasma screen that will present video and information about events and activities taking place at Mystic Lake Casino. A 50-inch plasma screen will be located in the center of the store, directly behind the new counter. Guests will see a variety of information about Mystic Lake Casino and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.
Three ultra-modern informational kiosks will also occupy the newly remodeled space. One 32-inch touch screen kiosk will have information about the SMSC, a second 32-inch touch screen kiosk will offer information about all Minnesota tribes, and the third, a 17-inch touch screen monitor, will contain information about Mystic Lake Casino. It will be unique, housed in a 10-foot tall tipi-shaped feature that will entice Mall visitors with a light and sound show.
The newly renovated store is expected to open to the public during the first week of November 2007.
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community operates the Mystic Lake Store at the Mall of America located on the second level near Sears. The store sells concert tickets, books hotel rooms, provides bus service to Mystic Lake Casino, and distributes information about Indian Gaming in Minnesota.
